Backend Engineer - High-Volume Data Processing

Alivio Search Partners is recruiting a Backend Engineer for a confidential, venture-backed AI data startup in New York City. The company is small, fast-growing, and engineering-led, and this engineer will personally own multi-stage, high-volume data-processing pipelines in production. This role is about code applied to the data itself: correctness, reliability, and recovery under failure, not just moving data between systems. The core stack is Python on AWS with queue- and worker-based pipelines and relational and NoSQL data stores. The team works on-site in Brooklyn, NY five days per week; this is not negotiable. Candidates outside NYC may be considered if actively willing to relocate, and partial relocation support is available. Compensation includes an annual base of $220,000 to $300,000 plus equity, depending on experience. Existing visa transfers (including OPT and H-1B) may be considered. Full-timeWhat You'll Do
Design, build, and own multi-stage, high-volume data-processing pipelines in production.
Build reliable asynchronous systems using queues, workers, and batch jobs on AWS.
Engineer for correctness: idempotency, retries, partial failure, and recovery.
Apply text-processing and NLP techniques to large datasets.
Work closely with a small engineering team and leadership in a fast-moving startup.
Requirements & Qualifications
3 to 10 years of software engineering experience with personal ownership of production backend systems.
Undergraduate degree in a relevant STEM field from a top-ranked U.S. university.
Strong distributed and asynchronous fundamentals: queues, workers, concurrency, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.
Meaningful full-time experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
Proficiency in a general-purpose backend language; Python preferred (Go, Rust, or Java also considered).
AWS experience; familiarity with NLP or entity extraction is a plus.
Ability to work on-site in Brooklyn, NY five days per week.
Compensation
$220,000 to $300,000 annual base + equity
